Kimberly Culture to an Outsider Acitivity

Now that we have completed the Nacirema activity we want to see if we can apply it. Reflect on a specific aspect of our culture. Attempt to describe this event as if you were an outsider to the Kimberly culture (Nacirema style). Do NOT tell us what event you are describing...see if the rest of your classmates can guess. After you have posted your comments enjoy reading what your peers wrote.

EXAMPLE: Each morning males in the society will enter the shrine with a sharp tool. The men will then use this sharp tool in a cleansing ritual which involves scraping and lacerating the surface of their face. The men will then apply a potion to their lacerated face. This potion has a strong stench and it reportedly will burn and irritate the skin where ever it is applied.

  2. Nick Ruttn- Males and Females will walk a small distance from the high learning place to buy odd liquids and other rare subtances. They would walk to this place usually in the middle of the week when classes dont require them to be in classes early in the morning. They usually walk this distance in packs or small tribes. Can you guess what Im describeing.....lol :P

  5. During this part of their daily lifestyle, the men and women all come together at certain periods for the same amount of time in a giant room. Here they buy goods from the grand company, or trade goods amongst each other. they then consume these goods, or save them for later, after they have completed their work for the day. Sometimes the men and women will interact with each other, but most of the time they will sit with their own sex.

  6. Every morning children awake early and prepare to get onto a large motor vehicle. This behemoth of a machine takes them to a large, important building, in which they are supposed to learn and further their education. At Mid-day often the children will pool around the central area of the building or leave it all together, but all return to resume education until late in the day in which they get back on the large vehicle and travel home.

  8. Every afternoon in the puplic shrine females reapply thier face paint and then burn their hair with irons to make it look like sticks. Why do they do this? It is to make themselves look better and to cover up the flaws of their bodies.

Everyday, people step onto wooden planks to play there favorite game. These people (men and women) run around on wood to try to blacken someones eye or make their nose bleed. All for fun and games. (And money...)They can use their fists, feet, knees, anything. They are fenced in to prevent escape. There is only one person watching in side the fence, but hundreds and thousands on the outside laughing at the people being hurt.

The tribe that occupies the area in and around kimberly high school is composed of 4 main social classes social classes that go from lowest to highest of freshmen, sophmores, juniors, and seniors. although most of the time the groups get along, occasionally there are events that cause great rivalry between the social classes. every year, the groups move up each social class until they reach the highest class and then are exiled forever. - NIck Johnson

  26. In the small tribe of Ylrebmik,Gnimo-cemoh is a highly celebrated event. Children dress in outragous costumes, each day they dress differently. One the last day the community seperates into four large groups. They then compete against eachother in small competitions. However, the young tribe members will never succeed in defeating their elders. Then they spend hours getting ready to watch their village battle one of the neighboring villages. Afterwards there is always a celebratory pow wow. Everyone meets at the learning center to dance to some native music. Eventually all the celebration ends and the tribe members return to their huts.

  27. In the fasinating village of Ylrebmik, there are many rituals. First off they start to learn their daily living and life skills after the 8th month of the year has finished. When it comes time in the learning process to stop and have a little fun they decide to have a screaming event called Gnimocemoh. They split into groups and try and beat the others in small compititions while dressed in unusual clothing, set aside just of this event . The eldests most fit males of the group then go out to battle other villages in a brutal war of Llab Toof. The winner is normally the village of Ylrebmik. They then start their victory ritual of boogie. The villagers wear their best linens and fabrics.

  38. The villagers of Srekamrepap have the most intresting culture. Young males and females go to a room of many objects some with more worth than others. They go to their rooms to gather wisdom from the elders of their society. Some of these may live in nearby villages but the community stil survives without battles for many years.
