    sadly, this is my prediction.
    i'm rooting for booker!

  10. IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE (IN THIS DAY AND AGE) THAT A CAMPAIGN WOULD BE WON ON THE STREETS, DOOR TO DOOR. WHY DO YOU THINK NEW JERSEY HAS SUCH UNIQUE POLITICS?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sharpe= 44%
    Booker= 56%

    Sharpe 35%

    go Booker!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Booker = 45%
    Sharpe = 55%

    ReplyDelete
  14. wait nevermind I think Booker just won the last election (2006) if I remember correctly

    ReplyDelete
  15. probably because it is such a poor area

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sharpe 59&, Booker 41%

    ReplyDelete
  17. Elections are won on the streets in New Jersey because there are so many people living on the streets who are going to vote for whoever is going to give them more.

    ReplyDelete
  18. DO YOU THINK THE OWNER OF "SIGHTS" WAS TELLING THE TRUTH? WAS MAYOR SHARPE JAMES EVER AT HIS CLUB?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I believe New Jersey has such unique politics because people who live there have strong opinions. For the people of New Jersey to change their opinions, Booker needs to make sure the people know he is there for them and will go door to door just to get their trust.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think that the high level of poverty that occurs in the area drastically changes how a campaign needs to be run. By going door to door, a canidate is able to show that they have the citizen's best interest in mind and are willing to go and meet with them personally to understand how they live and what they need to improve their living conditions.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Because the town of Newark has so much need for change with the diverse community and poverty levels, there will always be individuals who want to make a change. This makes the race much more competitive in this community.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think this is mainly because of how urban the area is. Most of the action in Newark revolves around the streets, and door-to-door contact shows commitment to a cause, and displays a level of "down-to-earth" integrity.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The way that Sharpe answered the questions leaves me to believe that he did in fact go to the club, even if it was only that one time.

    ReplyDelete
  24. New Jersey elections are won on the streets, because that's where the people are! You are not going to win an election by solely televising your campaign in these areas. In order to be elected by the people, you need to reach out and interact with people.

    ReplyDelete
  25. newark has unique politics and door to door tactics may be beneficial because it shows booker's dedication to his campaign and the city and it helps increase his name recognition.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Booker 55% Sharpe 45%

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's interesting to see just how embedded the racism issue is, especially within the black community itself

    ReplyDelete
  28. By denying that he's ever been there, I definitely think that Sharpe James went to the club.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think the reason that it is such a "street fight" is because everyone who is poor in that community wants a change and to have a better life. And it seems that Newark has a lot of poor people.

    ReplyDelete
  30. In this area people are so restricted in their technology they need to have the argument come to them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Going door to door helps to develop a more "personal" relationship with the many people who live in poverty on the streets.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think that the club owner was truthful because Sharpe seems like a very shady man. Also the way that he reacted to the reporter makes him look very guilty

    ReplyDelete
  33. Like it said in the video, half of the city is starting to develop into a new city, but the other half is still really poor and run down. For all of the people who live on the poor side of the city, a door to door campaign would probably be more effective.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think that it has to be won on the streets. Because a majority of people live on the streets. So the people of the streets want whoever represents them to come from the streets too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I definitely agree with Bailey. I never would have guessed how much tension there is about racism within a population.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sharpe was at the club i believe because he seems like an individual that does not have a lot of integrity.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i agree with lexi...sharpe's reaction and statements denying he ever went to the club lead me to believe he did go there

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think he definitely at the club. That's why he deflected all the questions saying "im to smart to give that an answer". And I think Booker will win 53% , Sharpe with 47%

    ReplyDelete
  39. Regardless of what the owner claims, the fact that Sharpe dodged the question on each occasion, and became very defensive suggests that something was going on

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think that Sharpe was at the club because of the way he acted and reacted to the reporters questions about it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's hard to tell if the owner of the club was telling the truth. He could just be saying things to get back at Sharpe for saying dirty things about Booker.

    ReplyDelete
  42. BOOKER! BOOKER! BOOKER! BOOKER!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think that the club owner is telling the truth. Just because Sharpe is so willing to place the blame on Booker, but he just went off when the reporter asked him if he was at the club. It made him look guilt

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think he went to the club as well. Same reasons with Lexi and Hannah, but I also like the "lack of integrity" that Laura mentioned

    ReplyDelete
  45. "WE ASK OUR BLACK CHILDREN TO BECOME EDUCATED, AND WHEN THEY DO WE CALL THEM 'WHITE'. THAT'S SAD." This is one of my favorite quotes from the film. What do you think about it?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think all politicians should have to do a door to door campaign to some degree, at least if they are running on a local level. If they want to prove their dedication to the people they want to represent, they should go out and talk to them and hear what they have to say. How can you represent and work for somebody if you don't know or care about them?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree that the quote is very sad. Although education is what was supposed to provide equality between blacks and whites after the Civil War, it's still sad to see that education is separating blacks within their own community.

    ReplyDelete
  48. IS IT STRANGE THAT CORY BOOKER'S FUNDRAISER IS IN A WHITE SUPPORTERS HOUSE AND EVERYONE WE SEE WORKING THE PARTY (CATERING, PARKING ATTENDANTS...) IS BLACK?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wish that racism was an unheard of thing, but its not the truth. Being educated does not mean you are white, but the fact is, is that some people still think like they did years ago. People today think that minorities are dumb, and that white people are the supreme race. I think it's ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think that is a very good quote. It does make a lot of sense because impoverished blacks want their family to become educated so they can improve their conditions. Anyone would want to do the same, but when they are unable to the make fun of the ones who have and seperate them from their race and call them "white"

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think that it makes it seem as if only black are uneducated and only whites are properly schooled. It keeps a racial boundary between the two, and i think it's terrible to say something like that

    ReplyDelete
  52. The quote is very powerful. I like it a lot. I do agree that it is sad that some black people are turn on the well educated black people. I think this might just be because they are bitter that it isn't them having the good education, so it is almost like an insult to call them 'white'.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I really like that quote as well, and I think it can apply to any situation where people are becoming successful and those "left behind" tear them down or condemn them out of jealously, fear and resentment.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think this quote shows the way people who are uneducated think about those who are educated. In this film, it seems as though the people are mad at Cory Booker in a way for coming into their city and being more educated than them.

    ReplyDelete
  55. What would happen if we looked at the quote the opposite way? If educated African Americans are white, then are uneducated white people African American?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think that is a very interesting quote. Many people think that racism is not an issue anymore, when in fact, it is. Lots people have negative views toward people of a certain race, like this quote shows.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Kaitlyn and Gretchen's comments are worded perfectly and I have to second both of their statements.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It's pretty amazing to me. The man said it best when he called it sad. The fact that education and the idea of becoming educated has become, for some, a sign of betrayal to one's race is scary.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think Sharpe James feels threatened by Booker so he is resorting to extreme claims to scare people away from him. His followers also like to chant a lot. Mob psychology? "Dumb" followers?

    ReplyDelete
  60. All the racism and discrimination drives me nuts. Just because someone is educated, certainly doesn't mean you have to call them "white." There are plenty of colored educated people out there too...look at our President

    ReplyDelete
  61. I know this is late, however my computer just allowed me to log on.

    Booker: 58%
    Sharpe: 42%

    ReplyDelete
  62. i do not think it is strange that booker only has blacks working for him because when you see sharpe's supporters and campaign assistance, they are also black.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I don't really think it's odd that a majority of the people working are black. It is a hight black populated area.

    ReplyDelete
  64. i don't understand why these people keep saying they are tired of being lied to and having the same problems without seeing any change from the government. why would you keep re-electing the same person if they have not helped you or followed through with the change they promised. you can't keep electing the same person and expect different results.

    ReplyDelete
  65. i know this is late, my computer was taking forever to get on....

    Booker 48%
    Sharpe 52%

    -Nicole Brumm

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would agree with Brianna. I think that the majority of people in that area are black. If Sharpe played the "race card" i think that is a desperate measure and not relevant.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree with the statements of both Rachael and Quinn. It is very sad how African Americans worked so hard for their equal rights, yet they are split among themselves in believing that being educated and sharing equal rights with the white people is going against ones culture.

    ReplyDelete
  68. i agree with brandon and brianna....it is just a desperate measure, since he knows when it comes to the real issues, he knows booker has an edge

    -Nicole Brumm

    ReplyDelete
  69. i agree with you lexi, but i think they have seen progress within newark since sharpe was elected but they do not understand that changes like new malls and urban development will happen over the amount of time of sharp's reign. they associate anything good that happened within his time as mayor with sharpe and anything they still want accomplished will be accomplished through sharpe.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I agree with Lexi. If you don't like the choices the government is making, elect someone new for a change.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think lexi brings up an excellent point. Alot of individuals are upset about how things are going in Newark, but yet they haven't changed who their leader is for 32 years! that's their own fault!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Sharpe=dirty politician. you can't punish business owners for supporting Booker. We live in a democracy and we have the right to vote for any canidate we wish without facing punishments.

    ReplyDelete
  73. It really surprises me that even though James is using his police force to limit the rights of business owners the people still refuse to see it and vote for him. It's almost like we're back in the early 1900s where political bosses control entire cities.

    ReplyDelete
  74. this brings me back to the political machines of the early 1900s. sharpe reminds me of boss tweed.

    ReplyDelete
  75. wow that painted-over signs scene was crazy

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sharpe likes to play music at his gatherings and make people feel like they're at a party....since he's already in office i think he feels like he just has to keep people happy, comfortable and unquestioning. the whole political machine thing is unfortunate and frustrating; it seems so unjust and against principles of democracy. it puts the honest candidate in a difficult position

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think that it is sad that Sharpe has to threaten business owners and people to vote for him. Is it that he has to use his power as the current mayor to make people vote for him? if so, what does that say about him as a person, a mayor, a politician? Again, its ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  78. a terrorist? are they serious?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Even though people are covering up their Booker signs and not giving him money, I hope that they will see what Sharpe is doing and the dirty stunts he's pulling and vote for Booker instead.

    ReplyDelete
  80. this is sad how its suppose to be a free country where you can support whoever you want in elections and vote however you want, yet these people in Newark have to fear their lifes if they go against the mayor

    ReplyDelete
  81. This is an honest to goodness street fight. Nasty. And ineffective.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Another great point made by bailey. I haven't heard any of Sharpe's beliefs and what he is going to do to make Newark better. (besides the mall and few other huge buildings that he built) Sharpe hasn't said anything he was going to do about all the murder and drugs in Newark. The only thing he has done is dirty politics and partied.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Wow, really, accusing people of being terrorists?

    ReplyDelete
  84. i cannot stand sharpe. how could anyone vote for him after incidents like this? honestly they are brainwashed.

    ReplyDelete
  85. sharpe runs a dirty campaign...did he really call him a terrorist? give me a break...

    ReplyDelete
  86. If people would take a step back and see what Sharpe is doing to the very people he is supposed to represent, they would not be supporting him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. i can't believe that people are so sick that they will break into someones home to steal things in a campaign....its just sad.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think that the system is so corrupt and ruled by James that the people are scared to do anything different, which is very very sad because I believe Booker will bring the change they need.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree. He's throwing out words like terrorist? I think he does that because he understands that he isn't doing anything to benefit Newark and his position could be in jeopardy.

    ReplyDelete
  90. it surprises me how many large groups and corps. r behind cory booker, yet people still doubt him..

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think it was the right time for the higher government to step in and make sure that the votes are fair. But those sound trucks are not only obnoxious but also so suggestive especially when they are right where the vote will take place.

    ReplyDelete
  92. dead heat! its gotta be getting to sharpe now...he has to realize soon that he can't just sweep this election away.
    "he smells like the future!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  93. ANYONE WANT TO CHANGE THEIR PREDICTION....DON'T CHEAT

    ReplyDelete
  94. All of the kids understand who is best for Newark. I wish the adults would listen.

    ReplyDelete
  95. the girl knows what she's talking about

    ReplyDelete
  96. It's a funny line, but possibly true!

    ReplyDelete
  97. i agree with lexi. obama should use that in the next election :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think Hannah makes a good point that Sharpe has actually made some improvements in Newark over his time in office, so people feel like any problems they still may have are just on their way to being fixed. Sharpe is able to manipulate people into satisfaction with their current state by talking about all the good he's done....reminds me of Orwell's 1984, or any 20th century communist regime. "Things are so much better than they used to be, no need to complain..."

    ReplyDelete
  99. I would love to change my prediction. I still think Booker will win, but not such a blow out. Maybe 55% - 45%

    ReplyDelete
  100. best quote ever. booker has to win now!

    ReplyDelete
  101. i may be being optimistic but im gonna go with

    Booker 70%
    Sharpe 30%

    ReplyDelete
  102. I totally agree with Sara. I really hope Booker wins! I think he is the change Newark needs.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Booker 60%
    Sharpe 40%

It will be a tight race, but I think Booker will pull through. (At least I hope so)

    ReplyDelete
  104. thats sick. they don't even know who he is or what he stands for, and yet they "support" him the day of the election. its just sad.

    ReplyDelete
  105. that's ridiculous that people from philly are coming all the way to Newark because they get paid to support someone they don't even know.

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's tough to call. The footage only displays so much. We'll have to see. I'm still thinking Sharpe has it, because he has control, and too many people are still comfortable with that.

    ReplyDelete
  107. if Sharpe wins, I might have to get up and leave because i will be so upset.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Gretchen, I agree. 100%

    ReplyDelete
  109. Booker is a much stronger speaker than Sharpe.

    ReplyDelete
  110. he keeps saying that cory complains everyday...all i have heard from james is complain complain complain, every time we hear him speak...

    ReplyDelete
  111. Laura I totally agree and will walk out with you!

    ReplyDelete
  112. thats just sad when you see police officers taking down signs when they know its illegal to take them down...

    ReplyDelete
  113. I feel I should be more optimistic about Booker, considering documentaries aren't usually made about the loser...
    Booker - 61%
    Sharpe - 59%

    ReplyDelete
  114. Sadly I starting to think
    Booker 45
    Sharpe 55
Sharpe's campaign is dominating this final day. I hope i'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  115. i still think james is still gonna win. even though hes a big lier that doesn't deserve it, i think he has to much power in this area.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Even though I don't like the angle that Sharpe is coming in on, I don't think he will lose to Booker.

    ReplyDelete
  117. This doesn't directly pertain to the video, but I'm curious why the establishment is always painted as the negative and the change the positive? In this situation that is definitely the case, but it just seems like whatever is "tradition" or been in place for a while is wrong and narrow minded and non-progressive. I don't know, just an observation.

    ReplyDelete
  118. like to Lexi's comment that was :)

    ReplyDelete
  119. poor newark. things are going to get worse 4 "four more years!"

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think Cory had a really great last speech and made some great points about starting to chip away at the political machine. Hopefully he beats Sharpe eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Disappointing. Very disappointing. Guess he unfortunately has to wait til the old guy kicks the bucket. Just kidding. Booker definitely should have won though.

    ReplyDelete
  122. http://s11.bdbphotos.com/images/orig/b/9/b9kbxkt7prb3kx79.jpg this looks like cory booker.

    ReplyDelete
  123. thanks yoda...and yes, sharpe better look out in 2006

    ReplyDelete
  124. poor booker. poor newark.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Personally, while I feel as if I would've voted for Booker either way. I will bring up the fact that this entire documentary was produced by someone who worked with Booker... just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  126. i give booker all the credit in the world. he worked hard and deserves to feel good. he got cheated, of the mayor position, but still has a smile on his face. good man.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I agree with gretchen about the speech. Cory isn't giving up which is admirable and proves his character as a politician and a man.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Wow, and Booker still stays strong after all of that. He'll get em next time!

    ReplyDelete
  129. That being said I still think I would've voted for Booker.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Obviously we all wanted him to win, but for the sake of the movie im glad that he didnt. It would have been almost too disney-like where good always defeats evil. But in reality, money and power will get you a long ways, even if you arent on the "good side"

    ReplyDelete
  131. if you haven't seen his twitter, check it out. he interacts with his citizens a lot, and is very productive!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Well at least he won in 2006

    ReplyDelete
  133. Good point michael. i wonder how it would have gone if the documentary supported sharpe...

    ReplyDelete
  134. well, that ending made me feel a little better and saved me from walking out.

    Booker FTW

    ReplyDelete
  135. yes, it would have been very disney-like...or at least american film like

    ReplyDelete
  136. i don't care if it is disney like!
    BOOKER!

    ReplyDelete
  137. http://s11.bdbphotos.com/images/orig/b/9/b9kbxkt7prb3kx79.jpg follow this link it is great

    ReplyDelete
  140. at leas he pulled off a win in the end

    ReplyDelete
  141. Just dawned on me that I put my last name on here a ton. My bad.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Ian said....

At 2:10 in the afternoon I heard a torpedo fired, when I went and looked the ship of what I heard was called Lusitania was hit. There was a big explosion and came after that, there was a second explosion. The explosion was hard and quick that the lifeboat crushed the crew on the deck and ripped the liner apart. The German didnt really care about the people in the ship they just wanted to win the war, and who ever stand on there way will be killed they say. I think that the American army should try to win the war because they say that 128 american died because of that torpedo.
